Marvel’s Black Panther earned the company more than a billion dollars at the box office in 2018. Set in the fictional Wakanda, the film followed the story of T’Challa as he ascended to kingship. The critically acclaimed production mesmerized us across demographics as kids from around the world showed up to theaters in costume, while adults pulled up to theaters in dashikis.
The film’s sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, premiered earlier this month- just a short two years after the passing of the franchise’s lead actor Chadwick Boseman. The story begins with a tearful tribute to the prequel’s protagonist before pushing the storyline forward. The plot keeps MCU fans interested in the fate of Wakanda while the aesthetics remind us why we fell in love with the film in the first place.
While it is too early to determine whether or not the sequel will outperform its predecessor, fans of the MCU have shown up to pay their respects to one of the most recognized superheroes in the past decade. Directed once again by Ryan Coogler, the sequel is assisted by another star-studded soundtrack that includes contributions from Rihanna, as well as rappers like Future and E-40.
